The Uzès Region
Uzès County offers stunning visual contrasts with the dry countryside of “La Garrigue” and the green shores of the rivers “le Gardon” and “l’Alzon”. For a long time, Uzès has inspired poets and writers :
“I loved with passion the countryside of Uzès, the valley of the Eure Fountain and most of all the Garrigue” used to sing André Gide. Persecuted by the ruthless sun, the Garrigue hosts many aromatic bushes: Green Oaks, Kermès, Honeysuckle, Thyme, Rosemary, Wild-Thyme and Jennet. Don’t let yourself be mesmerized by the romantic, relentless chanting of the Cicadas (the traditional emblem of Provence) that hide in summer under these very same bushes.
The Aqueduct of Pont-Du-Gard County
The Aqueduct of Pont-du-Gard represents the umbilical cord between Uzès and Nîmes. The Gallo-Roman Aqueduct meanders in the countryside over 50KM and used to carry water to the city of the Antonins. This site opens up to thousand of hiking trails for hikers and those who like old stones. Usually, visitors will end their walk at the famous Pont-Du-Gard. After meandering along a steep and deep canyon, the river le Gardon meets with the Aqueduct and offers swimmers and visitors who came down the river with canoes, a refreshing and pleasant spot for swimming or laying down on the beaches.
Discovery of the Region
North of Uzès, another impressive canyons offer some unforgettable walks (Les Concluses, nearby Lussan, a fortified village nestled in the middle of the vineyards) and are built as lines of rocks punctuated with natural basins and small waterfalls just at the steps of the impressive cliffs.
